Like certain clothing work better with certain body types, some haircuts go better with different face shapes. It’s important to get it right. Your hair is one of the first things that people notice about you.
There are four key face shapes: oval, round, square and heart. Once you’ve identified which one you are, read our guide to finding the perfect haircut. You’ll never have a bad hair day again:
If you have an oval face…
Your face is longer than it is wide. This is a versatile face shape. You can get away with most looks. However, you want to avoid too much volume on the top – this can elongate your face. The Caesar or a slick 50’s style will help add symmetry to your look.
If you have a round face…
Your face is circular with a rounded chin
You need a hairstyle that gives the illusion of structure. You can offset the roundness with a square haircut like a front fringe, faux hawks and pompadours. A beard can give an appearance of a stronger jaw line.
If you have a square face…
You face is similar in width and length, with a strong, defined jaw
This shape works with most hairstyles. A clean, close cut look would highlight your jaw line. You don’t have to cut it too soft around the edges.
If you have a heart shaped face…
Your forehead is larger than your cheekbones and jaw line
Steer clear of short, buzz cut type styles. You want to balance the width of the forehead and the relative narrowness of your jaw. Try a mid length sweep or a soft quiff.
